The role of manganese in Q275 steel steel plate

Carbon, Manganese, Phosphorus, Sulphur, Silicon are most basic elements in steel. Manganese is rather stable,which is not easy to be oxidized and not easy to be reduced. Manganese plays an important role in Q275 steel.

Manganese can increases the hardenability of Q275 steel. Manganese can also greatly improve high temperature instantaneous strength of Q275 steel.

Meanwhile, manganese also have its disadvantage in Q275 steel:
When the manganese content is higher, the phenomenon of tempering brittleness is obvious.
Manganese has the effect of promoting grain growth, so manganese steel must be paid attention to heat treatment technology for the more sensitive t of manganese steel. This shortcoming can be overcome by adding fine grain elements such as molybdenum, vanadium and titanium.
When the mass fraction of manganese exceeds 1%, the welding properties of the steel will be deteriorated.
Meanwhile, manganese can reduce the corrosion resistance of steel.
