P355GH is a pressure vessel steel grade specified under the European Norm standard EN 10028-2, which has superseded British Standard and DIN standard equivalents. As a non-alloy fine-grain steel with specified elevated-temperature properties, P355GH is engineered for manufacturing boilers, pressure vessels, and equipment operating in high-temperature environments.
For steam drum fabrication, P355GH demonstrates excellent suitability under EN standards. The grade offers a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa for thicknesses up to 16 mm, with tensile strength ranging from 510 to 650 MPa. Its maximum applicable design temperature reaches 400°C, with stable long-term service capability at 380–400°C in steam pressure environments. At 350°C, P355GH maintains a sustained yield strength of approximately 230 MPa, demonstrating superior high-temperature creep resistance compared to lower-grade alternatives. This makes it particularly suitable for medium-high pressure steam drums operating under 3.8–16 MPa.
The material is supplied in the normalized condition (normalized at 890–950°C), which enhances toughness and structural stability. P355GH exhibits good weldability with a low carbon equivalent (CEV ≤ 0.45), facilitating fabrication without compromising strength. For thicknesses exceeding 40 mm, preheating at 80–120°C is recommended to avoid welding cold cracks. These properties, combined with Charpy V-notch impact values of 27 J at -20°C, ensure reliable performance under thermal cycling and pressure fluctuations. Consequently, P355GH is widely applied in steam drums, superheater headers, and turbine components in thermal power stations, confirming its full compliance and suitability for steam drum fabrication under EN standards.
