Chemical Composition: Both 42CrMo4 and 42CrMoS4 have a similar chemical composition, including carbon (C), manganese (Mn), chromium (Cr), molybdenum (Mo), and small amounts of other alloying elements. The typical composition ranges for these grades are as follows:

42CrMo4: Carbon (0.38-0.45%), Manganese (0.60-0.90%), Chromium (0.90-1.20%), Molybdenum (0.15-0.30%), and other trace elements.

42CrMoS4: Carbon (0.38-0.45%), Manganese (0.60-0.90%), Chromium (0.90-1.20%), Molybdenum (0.15-0.30%), Sulfur (0.04% max), and other trace elements.

Sulfur Content: The key difference between 42CrMo4 and 42CrMoS4 is the sulfur content. 42CrMoS4 has a slightly higher sulfur content compared to 42CrMo4. The addition of sulfur improves machinability but may slightly reduce the mechanical properties of the steel.
