20Cr steel plate belongs to low hardenability carburized steel. This kind of steel is mostly used to manufacture carburized parts with high core strength requirements, surface bearing wear, cross section below 30mm, or complex shape and low load.

Main properties of 20Cr steel plate
Compared with 15Cr steel plate, 20Cr steel plate has higher strength and hardenability, but the toughness is worse. This steel still has a tendency of grain growth during carburization. Direct quenching after cooling has a greater impact on impact toughness, so after carburization Secondary quenching is required to improve the toughness of the part core without temper brittleness; steel has high cold strain plasticity and can be drawn in cold state; machinability is good under high temperature normalization or quenching and tempering, but poor after annealing; The 20Cr steel plate is pearlite and has good weldability. Generally, heat treatment is not required after welding, but parts with a thickness greater than 15mm need to be preheated to 100-150°C before welding, and tempering heat treatment is not required after welding.
 
20Cr steel plate application range
This kind of steel is mostly used to manufacture carburized parts (oil quenching) with high core strength requirements, surface wear, cross-section below 30mm, or complex shape and low load, such as: machine tool gearbox gears, gear shafts, cams , Worms, piston pins, claw clutches, etc.; for parts with small heat treatment deformation and high wear resistance, high-frequency surface quenching should be carried out after carburization, such as gears, shafts, spline shafts with modulus less than 3. This steel can also be used in the quenched and tempered state to manufacture parts with high working speed and medium impact load. This steel can also be used as low-carbon martensitic quenching steel to further increase the yield strength and tensile strength.
