What are the properties of 40# steel? steel plate

40# high-quality carbon structural steel has high strength and good machinability, moderate cold deformation plasticity, and poor weldability. It can be welded after quenching and tempering. It has no temper brittleness during heat treatment, but has low hardenability.

40# steel mechanical properties:

Tensile strength σb(MPa): ≥570(58)
Yield strength σs(MPa): ≥335(34)
Elongation δ5(%): ≥19
Reduction of area ψ(%): ≥45
Impact energy Akv(J): ≥47
Impact toughness value αkv(J/cm2): ≥59(6)
Hardness: unheated ≤217HB; annealed steel ≤187HB
Sample size: sample size is 25mm

40# carbon structural steel application:
40# steel has high strength and good machinability, moderate cold deformation plasticity, poor weldability, and can be welded after quenching and tempering. There is no temper brittleness during heat treatment, but low hardenability. This material is mainly used as small cross-section quenched and tempered parts with large load or large normalized parts with low stress, and surface hardened parts with low requirements on the strength of the core and wear-resistant surfaces, used to manufacture machine moving parts, such as rollers, shafts, connecting rods, discs, etc.
