Five Causes of Cracks in A588 corten steel Plate During Quenching steel plate

When the A588 corten steel plate is quenched, it often cracks because of some operation factors, the reasons are as follows.

Reason 1: Design problems, such as too small fillet r, inappropriate hole location and cross-section transition, will lead to quenching cracks of A588 corten steel plate.

Reason 2: When heating the A588 corten steel plate, the temperature is too high, or the temperature control is unreasonable, and the furnace temperature is not uniform, will lead to the cracking of the A588 corten steel plate. In order to prevent this situation, it is necessary to check the temperature control system, or add gaskets between the workpiece and the hearth.

Reason 3: In the process of heating A588 corten steel plate, the temperature is not well controlled and the corresponding protective heating is not carried out. Some factors such as residual decarburization in the process of heat treatment can also lead to quenching cracks. Specific precautions can control heating and provide appropriate protection. In addition, processing allowance should be increased.

Reason 4: In addition, the cracking of A588 corten steel plate is due to poor cooling work. The details are unreasonable choice of coolant or low cooling temperature. It is suggested to master the characteristics of some cooling media, use them reasonably or temper them.

Reason 5: Serious carbide segregation and poor forging quality may lead to cracking of A588 corten steel plate. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly control the forging process and preheating process.
