A387 Gr.22 Cl2 Alloy Steel Sheets for Pressure Vessels steel plate

A387 Gr.22 Cl2 material steel is a Chrome Moly steel plate, containing 2.25% chromium and 1% Molybdenum. The high levels of chromium provide the steel with outstanding oxidation and corrosion resistance.

A387 Gr.22 Cl2 Alloy Steel Sheets for Pressure Vessels
ASTM A387 pecification cover chrome moly steel alloy plates that are used specifically for pressure vessels and welded boilers that operate under elevated temperatures. Other applications for steel plates that come under these specifications include heat exchangers and pipework.
The most regularly specified grades and hence those that are most readily available from stock are Grades 12, 11, 22, 5, and 9 and in most case stock plates will be produced to the tensile requirements of Class 2.
A387 Gr.22 Cl2 alloy steel sheets have to undergo product, chemical and tensile testing (which is documented in the MTC or material test certificate) - with specific requirements that have to be met for tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation.
Mechanical Properties:
Tensile strength, ksi [MPa]: 75 to 100 [515 to 690]
Yield strength min. ksi [MPal]/(0.2% offset) : 45 [310]
Elongation in 8 in. [200 mm], min. %: ...
Elongation in 2 in. [50 mm], min. %: 18
Reduction of area, min %: 40 (measured on flat specimen)
These Chrome Moly steel sheets are used above all for manufacturing boilers, pressure vessels and pipes for the transportation of hot liquids. They also offer good properties at high and low temperature environments. The product is always supplied in the normalised and tempered condition.
